Line Boogaerts
Line Boogaerts was born in Leuven, Belgium, in 1986. She studied graphic design and multimedia design at the The Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent where she graduated in 2010 with a master in multimedia design. At the end of 2012, she was laureate of the higher Institute for fine arts (HISK) in Ghent. She currently lives and works in Ghent, Belgium.
The body of work of Line Boogaerts essentially concentrates on temporary drawings on windows. By using tinted oil or soap and some brushes, window wipers and some more cleaning materials she adds a layer to reality. The work is presented either as a performance, as a maquette or as an animated video shot in stop motion.
The drawing on the window creates blind spots. Some parts get opaque and mask the view behind. At the same time via the transparent spots in the drawing, the landscape or interior in the background still plays a role. The drawings transform and give other insights. It focuses on parts of reality and accentuates them. Sometimes you can see the big lines clearer by fading them. A window provides insight and vision. The drawings symbolize the hindrances to surmount.

Line Boogaerts werd geboren in Leuven in 1986. Ze studeerde grafisch ontwerp en multimedia-ontwerp aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten (KASK) in Gent, waar ze in 2010 afstudeerde met een master in multimedia-ontwerp. Eind 2012 werd ze laureaat van het Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten (HISK) in Gent. Ze woont en werkt momenteel in Gent, België.
Het oeuvre van Line Boogaerts concentreert zich hoofdzakelijk op tijdelijke tekeningen op vensters. Door getinte olie of zeep en borstels, ruitenwissers en schoonmaakmiddelen te gebruiken, voegt ze een laag toe aan de realiteit. Het werk wordt gepresenteerd als een performance, als een maquette of als een geanimeerde video-opname in stop-motion.
De tekening op het venster creëert blinde vlekken. Sommige delen worden ondoorzichtig en maskeren het zicht erachter. Tegelijkertijd speelt het landschap of interieur op de achtergrond nog steeds een rol via de transparante vlekken in de tekening. De tekeningen transformeren en geven zo andere inzichten. Het richt zich op delen van de werkelijkheid en accentueert deze. Soms zie je de grote lijnen duidelijker door ze te vervagen. Een venster biedt inzicht en visie. De tekeningen symboliseren de te nemen obstakels.
Boogaerts’ artiestieke onderzoek neemt verschilldende vormen aan, gaande van in-situ werk, performance, film, geanimeerde video en video-installatie.
