Prototype D

In residence: Robert M. Ochshorn and Begüm Erciyas

Departing from the concept of “Schreibtischtäter”, introduced by the philosopher Hannah Arendt, they examine how violence can be enacted at a distance from within an ostensibly neutral work environment.

During their residency, Robert M. Ochshorn and Begüm Erciyas developed a series of prototypes that make the gap between action and consequence tangible. In one of these, an “exploded control panel,” capacitive sensing is used to drive a complex sound installation, translating the user’s touch and proximity into real-time modulation.

Within this installation, drones function both as sonic elements and as references to unmanned weapons, acting as dynamic sound sources. They move through an open sound field and, depending on the interaction, are focused and redirected back toward the body of the operator.
