Werktank invited visual artist Hussein Shikha to design its newsletters with a GIF for an entire year. With each newsletter, he adds a new layer to the original GIF.
“This GIF is an ode to Uttu the Sumerian goddess of weaving. Uttu in Sumerian means “the woven” and she was illustrated as a spider in a web. The spider symbolizess patience and persistence due to its technique of setting webs. Numerous cultures attribute the spider’s ability to spin webs to the origin of spinning, textile weaving, basket weaving, knotwork, and net making.”
