In 2015 Ief Spincemaille set up a temporary second atelier at the workshop of Velo, a Leuven based bike repair shop. There he developed his project Hacking Velo. The production system of Velo inspired him to create 5 new works. Instead of re-using the raw material derived from used bicycles, he recycled material from old paintings. The finished artworks are all reproductions of masterpieces of modern art, which he created with poor materials. He recuperated a.o. colors and canvases, reclaimed from unusable second-hand paintings.
Not only the specific production method of Velo inspired him, but also the philosophy behind a polyvalent practice. Velo uses the bicycle as a connector between economic, environmental, social and technical values and expanded that, through their collaboration with Ief, with artistic values.
