What if you developed a physical allergic reaction to AI? How would you navigate daily life when it’s almost impossible to avoid? This installation raises awareness on the growing omnipresence of Artificial Intelligence through a speculative narrative on an AI allergy. It presents a mockumentary following a fictional character’s symptoms and a medical-style leaflet offering playful tactics and practical strategies to opt-out and avoid AI, which visitors can take home.
The installation critiques the increasingly growing omnipresence of AI solutions provided on the internet in a tactical and silly way, encouraging the visitor to take their own actions and reclaim agency. Enabling AI tools is often not decided by the user, while disabling them is usually difficult, if not impossible, by design. Therefore, the agency over whether or not to use AI tools disappears. We believe that internet users should have the option to take conscious and ethical actions instead of accepting the new default way to interact with technology. The installation could spark interesting discussions with policymakers and politicians who are concerned with AI legislation, the EU AI Act and AI ethics, among others.
